It’s not obvious at first, but Google Chrome offers the ability to import, export, and otherwise manage your bookmarks. As detailed in this Google help article
This is very helpful for backing up your bookmarks. If there’s a server or sync issue, your missing or corrupted bookmarks can be restored from this backup.
Backup your Chrome bookmarks
- Open Google Chrome
- There are two ways to open the Bookmark Manager:
- Press Ctrl+Shift+O
- At the top right, click Morebutton and select Bookmarks Bookmark Manager
- This is the hidden step:
- In the header, click Organize and it will reveal additional options
- Click Export bookmarks to HTML file…
- Save this HTML file to Dropbox or a folder protected by your backup routine
Restore your Chrome bookmarks
- Open the Bookmark Manager:
- Press Ctrl+Shift+O
- At the top right, click Morebutton and select Bookmarks Bookmark Manager
- In the header, click Organize
- Click Import bookmarks from HTML file…
- Select the previously saved HTML file
- The bookmarks are available in the Imported folder of your Chrome bookmarks
